But don't know how to build one. Can anyone give me advice?
I'm envisioning a structure that will encircle my tent at Burning Man, be about 8-10 ft tall, with a 12 ft diameter across the top, an 8 ft diameter footprint, and, ideally, be wind storm resistant.
At first I thought of building the whole thing out of papier mache, then of fabric, wooden ribs and irrigation tube hoops, now PVC pipes???
I am open to any suggestions about how to proceed and would be very grateful for your feedback or ideas.
Please help me ensure that my 24-hr Mad Tea Party takes place as scheduled. A giant cake goes to the friendly, wonderful, generous person with the most useful design advice!!!
Thank you!

Re: I want to sleep in a giant teacup!
Sun, April 17, 2005 - 8:32 PMMy vote is paper mache. It would be good to burn it when you're done. Its a drag to throw away bent pvc on the way home. You could design a mold that is like 1/10th of the cup. Build it in sections that stack, then piece it together on the playa, add a little more paper mache & let it dry. Carry it out to the man or the temple & toss it on.

Tue, April 19, 2005 - 12:17 PMI do have one concern with the design....
It is might be giant dust collector. Depending
on the design details, it might function just like
the dust separators used in wood shops. All the air
swirls around and dumps the dust into the bottom
of the cup.

Tue, April 19, 2005 - 1:31 PMyeah, I was thinking the same thing. perhaps you should consider some kind of fabric to cover the top, and minimize the dust. it could act as extra shade as well to keep it cooler during the day.

Re: I want to sleep in a giant teacup!
Mon, April 14, 2008 - 7:48 PMDear Melissa, I once made Cinderella's coach for a theater production. It was made out of a giant outside patio umbrella and bendable irrigation hose. So, my suggestion is to take the umbrella and put it upside down, opened. The " spokes" will provide a nice shape for the bottom of the tea cup for your structure. Then wrap around it with a plastic drop cloth which paints really well.I would get something for the top to keep out critters and dust like a thick fabric which should be the color of the tea. Good luck!

Thu, April 17, 2008 - 10:38 PMwell, perhaps 2 rings, one for a base (with several, say 16, or 12) places for rebar stakes, and an upper ring, 2 pieces perhaps? that would be a huge "hub" interconnect with PVC or bamboo. skin with stretchy fabric, doorway, etc.
